Regarding the hillat (permissibility) and hurmat (impermissibility) of consuming shrimp, the ulamah kiram have a conflicting opinion. Some are convinced of its permissibility while others are convinced of its consumption as makrooh-e-tehreemi. Both groups of ulamah kiram have their set of proofs regarding these opinions. Since it is an issue of disagreement of ulamah kiram and an issue related to hillat and hurmat, the ulamah have considered the preferred route as being precautious.
