Wearing Shoes for Tawaf

Assalamualikum,
My dad has a chronic pain in his sole when he walks bear foot and he is going for hajj inshallah this year. However, when he wears sneakers he can walk for miles. My question is,  is he allowed to wear shoes or some thing that can comfort his sole during tawaaf and the run of safa-marwa ? If not then what could be a possible solution.

In case of a valid excuse it is permissible to perform tawaf while wearing the shoes. However the top bone of the foot should be visible. Therefore the shoes or sandals should be chosen in such a manner that the top bone of the foot is visible after wearing them.
